TikTok Shop product image size and requirements
TikTok Shop asks for a product image at 800×800, minimum width 800 px, on a pure white (RGB 255, 255, 255) background.
The number is easy. The hard part is that this image is almost never seen alone: it appears in a feed of moving video, often as a small card with interface elements over it. A photo that looks generous on a desktop monitor can read as an unidentifiable blob in that context.
Opens with the Main product image preset selected (800×800). Drop your images in and export.
The spec in one table
| Spec | Value | Why it is set that way |
|---|---|---|
| Image size | 800×800 | A square canvas that stays sharp in product cards. |
| Minimum width | 800 px | Below this the card upscales on high-density phones. |
| Aspect ratio | 1:1 | Square, so the card does not need to crop or letterbox. |
| Background | pure white (RGB 255, 255, 255) | Keeps the product readable against a busy video feed. |
| Formats | JPG / PNG | Upload one of these, or the file fails before review. |
If the format list comes back as "Not specified by the platform", that means the spec table on this site has not verified it for this rule. Export JPG for photographic product shots; it is the safe choice when no list is published.
Design for a phone in a feed, not for a monitor
A shopper meets your product image while scrolling. The card is small, the surrounding content is moving, and the image may be partly covered by price, rating, or a promotional badge.
That changes the design brief. The product should fill most of the frame rather than float in a vast white field, because empty space that looks premium on a product page looks like a mistake in a feed card. Keep the silhouette simple and centered, so an overlay in any corner cannot hide the identifying feature.
Text baked into the image is wasted here. It is unreadable at card size and it competes with the platform interface. Put product name and price in the listing fields, where they stay legible and searchable.
Why the required background is white
The requirement on this rule is pure white (RGB 255, 255, 255). White is not an aesthetic preference in a video-first app; it is what makes a still product image readable when it sits beside footage with arbitrary color and motion.
A styled scene can still be used in secondary images and in the video, where you control the whole frame. For the product card, flat white is the version that survives being shown at thumbnail size between two unrelated videos.
Prepare a TikTok Shop image in five steps
- Start from a square original: Crop square before resizing, so nothing is squeezed. Target a source at least as large as 800×800.
- Cut the product out cleanly: Keep the natural edge from the photo. A one-pixel gray fringe is invisible on a large screen and obvious on a phone with a bright display.
- Pad onto a white canvas: Fill with RGB 255, 255, 255 and center the product. No drop shadow, no gradient, no floor reflection.
- Size to 800×800: Confirm the width is at least 800 px, then export.
- Check it at thumbnail size: Zoom out until the image is small on your screen. If you cannot tell what the product is at that size, re-crop tighter before uploading.
One 800 px batch, several marketplaces
TikTok Shop is not the only platform in the 800 px class. If you sell across short-form and value marketplaces, one square white master at the largest of these sizes can serve all of them, and each platform gets an exact-size file instead of a link.
| Marketplace | Main image size | Background |
|---|---|---|
| TikTok Shop | 800×800 | pure white (RGB 255, 255, 255) |
| Shopee | 800×800 | any background |
| AliExpress | 800×800 | pure white (RGB 255, 255, 255) |
| Temu | 800×800 | pure white (RGB 255, 255, 255) |
| Lazada | 800×800 | pure white (RGB 255, 255, 255) |
| Amazon | 1000×1000 | pure white (RGB 255, 255, 255) |
Problems that show up after upload
- A product that fills the whole frame and gets clipped by a card crop on one edge.
- A background that is white in the center and slightly gray at the corners, from a vignette left in the source.
- A cutout with a visible halo, usually a remnant of the original studio backdrop.
- A file exported at a lower width than 800, which the card then upscales.
- Text or badges baked into the image that duplicate information the interface already shows.
Export the card image now
Pick one product, run it through the batch image tool with the TikTok Shop preset, and look at the result at thumbnail size before you process the rest. Processing happens in your browser, so a folder of images is resized without a single upload.
Frequently asked questions
What size should a TikTok Shop product image be?
800×800, with a minimum width of 800 px. Uploading a larger square and letting it downscale also works, as long as the aspect stays square.
Does TikTok Shop require a white background?
For this rule the spec records pure white (RGB 255, 255, 255). Treat it as a requirement for the product card, and keep styled scenes for secondary images and video.
Can I reuse Amazon images on TikTok Shop?
Usually yes, because both want a white background, but the framing differs. Amazon rewards a generous margin for zoom; a feed card rewards a product that fills more of the frame. Size down from the same master rather than reusing the exact crop.
Should I add text or a price to the image?
No. It is unreadable at card size, it duplicates interface elements, and it ages badly when you change the price. Use the listing fields for text.
What file format should I export?
The spec lists JPG / PNG. Where no format list is verified, JPG is the safe default for photographic product images and keeps the file small.
